Pro-active satisfaction of information needs across intra-organizational boundaries requires dynamic negotiation of shared understanding and adaptive handling of changing and ad-hoc task contexts. In this paper, we present the notion of a Distributed Organizational Memory (DOM) as a meta-information system with multiple ontology-based structures and a workflow-based context representation. We argue that agent technology offers the software basis which is necessary to realize DOM systems. Specifically, the goal is to take the simple fact that stories about illicit drugs have a lot to do with whether or not they will be used and see if an agent-based model can produce an epidemic incidence curve under the appropriate conditions. This commentary has less to do with the model and more to do with figuring out what kinds of numbers make sense. Based on the principle that mathematical ignorance is bliss, the author concludes that the most important thing is that number construction reflects the differences that make a difference in the ethnographic work, where the discovery of what the significant differences in fact were was a major result of the research. While many books have appeared on limited aspects of one subfield or another of brain theory and neural networks, the Handbook covers the entire sweep of topics-from detailed models of single neurons, analyses of a wide variety of biological neural networks, and connectionist studies of psychology and language, to mathematical analyses of a variety of abstract neural networks, and technological applications of adaptive, artificial neural networks. The excitement, and the frustration, of these topics is that they span such a broad range of disciplines including mathematics, statistical physics and chemistry, neurology and neurobiology, and computer science and electrical engineering as well as cognitive psychology, artificial intelligence, and philosophy. Thus, much effort has gone into making the Handbook accessible to readers with varied backgrounds while still providing a clear view of much of the recent, specialized research in specific topics. The heart of the book, part III, comprises of 267 original articles by leaders in the various fields, arranged alphabetically by title. Parts I and II, written by the editor, are designed to help readers orient themselves to this vast range of material. Part I, Background, introduces several basic neural models, explains how the present study of brain theory and neural networks integrates brain theory, artificial intelligence, and cognitive psychology, and provides a tutorial on the concepts essential for understanding neural networks as dynamic, adaptive systems. Part II, Road Maps, provides entry into the many articles of part III through an introductory “Meta-Map” and twenty-three road maps, each of which tours all the Part III articles on the chosen theme.}, invalid_isbn = {0262011484, 978-0262011488}, issn = {09252312}, pdf_locked = {True}, pmid = {5004602}, doi = {10.1016/S0925-2312(97)00036-2}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Arbib/Arbib_2003_The_handbook_of_brain_theory_and_neural_.pdf}, } @misc{archives03_isaar_cpf_, title = {ISAAR(CPF)}, subtitle = {International Standard Archival Authority Record for Corporate Bodies, Persons and Families}, author = {{International Council on Archives}}, year = {2003}, tags = {corporations, data, family, ISAAR, person, standards}, pdf_locked = {False}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Archives/Archives_2003_ISAAR_CPF_.pdf}, } @article{arendt03_person_respon_under_dictat_, title = {Personal Responsibility Under Dictatorship}, author = {Arendt, Hannah}, year = {2003}, tags = {dictator, ethics, history, politics, responsibility}, journal = {Responsibility and Judgment}, abstract = {To begin, I want to comment on the rather furious controversy touched off by my book Eichmann inJerusalem. I deliberately use the words “touched off,” rather than the word “caused,” for a large part of the controversy was devoted to a book that was never written. My first reaction, therefore, was to dismiss the whole affair with the famous words of an Austrian wit: ”There is nothing so entertaining as the discussion of a book nobody has read.” As this went on, however, and as, especially in its later stages, there were more and more voices who not only attacked me for what I had never said but, on the contrary, began to defend me for it, it dawned on me that there might be more to this slightly eerie exercise than sensation or entertainment. It seemed to me also that more than”emotions” were involved, that is, more than honest misunderstandings that in some instances caused an authentic breakdown of communication between author and reader-and more too than the distortions and falsifications of interest groups, which were much less afraid of my book than that it might initiate an impartial and detailed further examination of the period in question. To address this aim we will defend two distinct thesis. The former is that even simple predictions developed to anticipate future state of affairs have an intrinsic tendency to evolve in full expectations and then in prescriptions. We consider this as a multilevel phenomenon occurring either at the individual psychological level or at the interpersonal one or, finally, at the collective macro social level. The latter thesis is that we consider this tendency as one of the possible paths of the spontaneous emergence of agents' commitments, of conventions and likely of real social norms: the tacit emergence of a prescriptive character and, then, of obligations and duties. We will examine the constitutive elements both cognitive and relational of this process of spontaneous transition from the predictive attitudes to the prescriptive ones and, on this basis, to real normative attitudes. Finally, we will discuss the inevitably normative component of conventions as traditionally described (Lewis 1969). We will argue that this fundamental process is notably left implicit or insufficiently explained.}, pages = {1–6}, pdf_locked = {False}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Castelfranchi/Castelfranchi_2003_The_Prescriptive_Destiny_of_Predictive_A.pdf}, } @book{chambers03__chapt_approv_, title = {Chapter Approved 2003}, author = {Chambers, Andy and Haines, Pete and Hoare, Andy and Kelly, Phil and Thorpe, Gav}, year = {2003}, tags = {40k, rule_book}, publisher = {Games Workshop}, pdf_locked = {False}, isbn = {1-84154-317-9}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Chambers/Codex Chapter Approved 2003.pdf}, } @book{chambers03__codex_daemon_, title = {Codex Daemonhunters}, author = {Chambers, Andy and Kelly, Phil and Mcneill, Graham}, year = {2003}, tags = {40k, codex, rule_book}, edition = {3}, publisher = {Games Workshop}, pdf_locked = {False}, isbn = {1-84154-361-6}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Chambers/Codex Daemon Hunters.pdf}, } @book{chambers2__codex_eye_terror_, title = {Codex Eye of Terror}, author = {Chambers, Andy and Haines, Pete and Hoare, Andy and Kelly, Phil and Mcneill, Graham}, year = {2003}, tags = {40k, codex, rule_book}, edition = {3}, publisher = {Games Workshop}, pdf_locked = {True}, isbn = {1-84154-398-5}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Chambers/Codex Eye Of Terror.pdf}, } @article{charland03_const_rhetor_tradit_36_, title = {The Constitution of Rhetoric's Tradition}, author = {Charland, Maurice Rene}, year = {2003}, tags = {philosophy, pragmatics, rhetoric, tradition}, journal = {Philosophy and Rhetoric}, volume = {36}, number = {2}, pages = {119-134}, pdf_locked = {False}, doi = {10.1353/par.2003.0018}, url = {http://dx.doi.org/10.1353/par.2003.0018}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Charland/Charland_2003_The_Constitution_of_Rhetoric_s_Tradition.pdf}, } @inproceedings{charles03_plann_formal_author_inter_story_, title = {Planning Formalisms and Authoring in Interactive Storytelling}, author = {Charles, Fred and Lozano, Miguel and Mead, Steven J. and Bisquerra, Alicia Fornes and Cavazza, Marc}, year = {2003}, tags = {authoring, formalism, interactive_fiction, planning}, booktitle = {Technologies for Interactive Digital Storytelling and Entertainment Third International Conference, TIDSE 2003}, pdf_locked = {False}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Charles/Charles_2003_Planning_Formalisms_and_Authoring_in_Int.pdf}, } @inproceedings{cheng03_jazzin_eclip_collab_tools_key_, title = {Jazzing up Eclipse with Collaborative Tools 4 Key Features 3 Jazz Metaphor}, author = {Cheng, Li-te and Hupfer, Susanne and Ross, Steven and Patterson, John}, year = {2003}, tags = {collaboration, CSCW, design, eclipse, java, prototype, software_development}, booktitle = {OOPSLA}, pages = {45–49}, pdf_locked = {False}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Cheng/Cheng_2003_Jazzing_up_Eclipse_with_Collaborative_To.pdf}, } @book{chou03_patter_recog_speec_languag_proces_, title = {Pattern Recognition in Speech and Language Processing}, editor = {Chou, W U and Juang, Biing Hwang}, year = {2003}, tags = {language, machine_learning, pattern_recognition, speech, text_book}, publisher = {CRC Press}, invalid_isbn = {0-84933-1232-9}, pdf_locked = {False}, doi = {10.1201/9780203010525}, url = {http://www.crcnetbase.com/doi/book/10.1201/9780203010525}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Chou/Chou_2003_Pattern_Recognition_in_Speech_and_Langua.pdf}, } @proceedings{conf_atal_2002lncs_, title = {Trust, Reputation, and Security}, subtitle = {Theories and Practice, AAMAS 2002 International Workshop, Bologna, Italy, July 15, 2002, Selected and Invited Papers}, editor = {Falcone, Rino and Barber, K. In this study we examined the extent to which pluralistic ignorance affects hooking up. One hundred thirty-six female and 128 male college students answered questions regarding their own comfort and their perceived peers'comfort in engaging in a variety of sexual behaviors while hooking up. We hypothesized and found that both women and men rated their peers as being more comfortable engaging in these behaviors than they rated themselves. Men expressed more comfort than did women in engaging in these behaviors, and both sexes overestimated the other gender's comfort with hooking up behaviors. The Case of the Architecture Competition}, author = {Lipstadt, Hélène}, year = {2003}, tags = {architecture, art, culture, field, pierre_bourdieu, profession}, journal = {Cultural Studies}, volume = {17}, number = {3-4}, abstract = {The difference between 'artistic and literary fields' and universes such as architecture usually recognized as 'art professions' but which enjoy a far lesser 'degree of autonomy' than such fields seemingly constitutes an obstacle to the broader application of the notion of a 'field of cultural production' sought by Bourdieu in his Rules of Art. The author of this paper overcomes this obstacle by employing his notion of the 'field effect', with the architecture competition serving as the test case. Following Bourdieu, the author replaces the notion of profession with that of the field, for the former is a representation fostered by professional groups themselves. Architecture is a field, but, because architects require clients to construct and realize their works, one unlike the artistic and literary fields, which are markets of symbolic goods where 'distinterest' reigns and an autonomy unthinkable elsewhere is enjoyed. However, much like artists and unlike any other 'professionals', architects enter competitions, suggesting that this practice is an analytically relevant indicator of the field effect. After defining several of the elements of Bourdieu's relational conceptual matrix (field, illusio, collusion, doxa and space of possibles) and demonstrating that the Baptistery competition in Florence (1401) conforms to Bourdieu's historical beginning point for the process of 'autonomization' of artistic production, I examine a number of competitions from 1401 to 1989 (Berlin Jewish Museum) along with the general properties of competitions (structure and organization, publication and exhibition of results, com- petitors' economically irrational behaviour, practices of designers and jurors and the associated universe of beliefs), analysing them as those of an artistic field. It is concluded that when architects enter competitions, architecture, at least provisionally resembles an artistic field, for there is a field effect shown by a high degree autonomy, disinterest and the creation of an upside-down world}, invalid_isbn = {0950238032000}, issn = {09502386}, pages = {390–418}, pdf_locked = {False}, doi = {10.1080/0950238032000083872}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Lipstadt/Lipstadt_2003_Can_art_Professions_Be_Bourdieuean_Fie.pdf}, } @article{loftus03_scien_under_legal_assaul_132_, title = {On Science Under Legal Assault}, author = {Loftus, Elizabeth F.}, year = {2003}, tags = {law, philosophy, research, science, USA}, journal = {Daedalus}, volume = {132}, number = {4}, pages = {84-86}, pdf_locked = {False}, doi = {10.1162/001152603771338823}, url = {http://dx.doi.org/10.1162/001152603771338823}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Loftus/Loftus_2003_On_Science_Under_Legal_Assault.pdf}, } @article{lomuscio03_deont_inter_system_75_, title = {Deontic Interpreted Systems}, author = {Lomuscio, Alessio and Sergot, Marek}, year = {2003}, tags = {deontic_logic, interpreted_system, KD45, saul_kripke}, journal = {Studia Logica}, volume = {75}, number = {1}, bibsource = {dblp computer science bibliography, https://dblp.org}, biburl = {https://dblp.org/rec/journals/sLogica/LomuscioS03.bib}, pages = {63-92}, pdf_locked = {False}, timestamp = {Mon, 26 Oct 2020 00:00:00 +0100}, doi = {10.1023/a:1026176900459}, url = {http://dx.doi.org/10.1023/A:1026176900459}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Lomuscio/Lomuscio_2003_Deontic_Interpreted_Systems.pdf}, } @proceedings{long03_, title = {International Workshop on PDDL}, editor = {Long, Derek and McDermott, Drew and Thiébaux, Sylvie}, year = {2003}, tags = {agents, artificial_intelligence, DSL, hierarchical_planning, language_design, MAS, multi_agent_systems, PDDL, planning}, pdf_locked = {False}, series = {ICAPS 2003}, url = {https://web.archive.org/web/20040606084320/http://csl.anu.edu.au/~thiebaux/workshops/ICAPS03/}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Long/PDDL-ICAPS03.pdf}, } @article{long03__pddl2_20_, title = {Pddl2.1}, subtitle = {An Extension To Pddl for Ex- Pressing Temporal Planning Domains.}, author = {Long, Derek and Fox, Maria}, year = {2003}, tags = {ACL, agents, concurrency, PDDL, planning, semantics, temporal, time}, journal = {Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research}, volume = {20}, arxivid = {1106.4561}, invalid_isbn = {0165-022X}, issn = {10769757}, pages = {61–124}, pdf_locked = {False}, pmid = {8844323}, doi = {10.1613/jair.1129}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Long/Long_2003_Pddl2_1.pdf}, } @inproceedings{lowe03_, title = {The statistics of text}, subtitle = {New methods for content analysis}, author = {Lowe, Will}, year = {2003}, tags = {CCA, contextual_similarity, dendrogram, NLP, statistics, text}, booktitle = {Midwest Conference}, organization = {Citeseer}, pages = {1–17}, pdf_locked = {False}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Lowe/Lowe_2003_The_statistics_of_text.pdf}, } @inproceedings{lutz03_descr_logic_concr_domain_survey_, title = {Description Logics with Concrete Domains - A Survey}, author = {Lutz, Carsten}, year = {2003}, tags = {__important, description_logic, literature_review, modal_logic, survey}, booktitle = {Advances in Modal Logic}, publisher = {King's College Publications}, pdf_locked = {False}, isbn = {0-9543006-2-9}, url = {http://www.aiml.net/volumes/volume4/}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Lutz/Lutz_2003_Description_Logics_with_Concrete_Domains.pdf}, } @book{malone03__inven_organ_centur_, title = {Inventing the Organizations of the 21st Century}, editor = {Malone, Thomas W. and Laubacher, Robert and Morton, Michael S. Position in the field indicates the potential for a force exerted on the person, but a force that impinges “from the inside” as opposed to external compulsion. Motivation is accordingly considered to be the paramount example of social structure in action, as opposed to a residue of chance or freedom. While field theory is often castigated for its necessarily tautological definition, this may be far more of an advantage than a defect. Perceived agency was manipulated by telling the participants that the image was either an avatar controlled by a human, or an agent controlled by a computer. The results support the prediction that people respond socially to both human and computer-controlled entities, and that the existence of a virtual image increases telepresence. Participants interacting with the less-anthropomorphic image reported more copresence and social presence than those inter-acting with partners represented by either no image at all or by a highly anthropomorphic image of the other, indicating that the more anthropomorphic images set up higher expectations that lead to reduced presence when these expectations were not met.}, invalid_isbn = {1054-7460}, issn = {1054-7460}, pages = {481–494}, pdf_locked = {False}, pmid = {12199833}, doi = {10.1162/105474603322761289}, url = {http://www.mitpressjournals.org/doi/10.1162/105474603322761289}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Nowak/Nowak_2003_The_Effect_of_the_Agency_and_Anthropomor.pdf}, } @article{nutt03__sims_6_, title = {The Sims}, subtitle = {Real Life as Genre}, author = {Nutt, Diane and Railton, Diane}, year = {2003}, tags = {artificial_intelligence, genre, social_simulation, the_sims}, journal = {Information, Communication & Society}, volume = {6}, number = {4}, publisher = {Informa UK Limited}, pages = {577-592}, pdf_locked = {False}, doi = {10.1080/1369118032000163268}, url = {http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/1369118032000163268}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Nutt/nutt2003.pdf}, } @inbook{oday03_ecolog_persp_digit_librar_, title = {An Ecological Perspective on Digital Libraries}, author = {O'Day, Vicki L. and Nardi, Bonnie A.}, year = {2003}, tags = {digital_libraries, ecology}, chapter = {4}, crossref = {bishop03_digit_}, } @article{olson03_critic_acclaim_hci_model_theor_framew_, title = {Critical Acclaim for Hci Models, Theories, and Frameworks}, author = {Olson, Judith and Grudin, Jonathan and Moran, Tom}, year = {2003}, tags = {activity_theory, common_ground, design, distributed_cognition, formal, formalism, framework, HCI, mental_models, notation, text_book}, journal = {HCI Models, Theories, and Frameworks}, abstract = {Finally a thorough pedagogical survey of the multidisciplinary science of HCI.Human-Computer Interaction spans many disciplines, from the social and behavioral sciences to information and computer technology. Its authors comprise a veritable house of diamonds internationally known HCI researchers, every one of whom has successfully applied a unique scientific method to solve practical problems. Each chapter focuses on a different scientific analysis or approach, but all in an identical format, especially designed to facilitate comparison of the various models.HCI Models, Theories, and Frameworks answers the question raised by the other HCI textbooks: How can HCI theory can support practice in HCI?* Traces HCI research from its origins* Surveys 14 different successful research approaches in HCI* Presents each approach in a common format to facilitate comparisons* Web-enhanced with teaching tools at http://www.HCImodels.com*Contributors are leading researchers in the field of Human-Comptuter Interaction *Fills a major gap in current literature about the rich scientific foundations of HCI *Provides a thorough pedogological survey of the science of HCI}, issn = {10913556}, pages = {i}, pdf_locked = {False}, isbn = {978-1-55860-808-5}, doi = {10.1016/B978-1-55860-808-5.50020-4}, url = {http://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/B9781558608085500204}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Olson/Olson_2003_Critical_Acclaim_for_Hci_Models_Theorie.pdf}, } @article{park03_level_playin_field_36_, title = {Levelling the Playing Field}, subtitle = {Towards Best Practice in the Doctoral Viva}, author = {Park, Chris}, year = {2003}, tags = {pedagogy, phd, viva}, journal = {Higher Education Review}, volume = {36}, number = {1}, pages = {47–67}, pdf_locked = {False}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Park/Park_2003_Levelling_the_Playing_Field.pdf}, } @article{parunak03_chang_roles_2_, title = {Changing Roles}, subtitle = {Dynamic Role Assignment}, author = {Parunak, H Van Dyke and Brueckner, Sven and Sauter, John}, year = {2003}, tags = {agent, agents, dynamics, MAS, multi_agent_systems, norms, role_change, roles}, journal = {Journal of Object Technology}, volume = {2}, number = {5}, pages = {77–86}, pdf_locked = {False}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Parunak/Parunak_2003_Changing_Roles.pdf}, } @inproceedings{pastor03_towar_harmon_, title = {Towards Harmonia}, subtitle = {Automatic Generation of E-Organisations From Institution Specifications}, author = {Pastor, Daniel Jiménez and Padget, Julian}, year = {2003}, tags = {DAML, fish_market, HARMONIA, institution, organisation}, booktitle = {Proceedings of Ontologies in Agent Systems at AAMAS'03}, pdf_locked = {False}, url = {https://researchportal.bath.ac.uk/en/publications/towards-harmonia-automatic-generation-of-e-organisations-from-ins}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Pastor/Pastor_2003_Towards_Harmonia.pdf}, } @inproceedings{penczek03_verif_epist_proper_multi_agent_, title = {Verifying Epistemic Properties of Multi-Agent Systems Via Bounded Model Checking}, author = {Penczek, Woljciech and Lomuscio, Alessio}, year = {2003}, tags = {agents, bounded_semantics, computation_tree_logic, computation_tree_logic_of_knowledge, coordination, CTL, CTLK, epistemic_logic, MAS, multi_agent_systems, semantics, temporal_logic, verification}, booktitle = {Autonomous Agents And Multiagent Systems (AAMAS)}, pdf_locked = {False}, doi = {10.1145/860575.860609}, url = {http://dx.doi.org/10.1145/860575.860609}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Penczek/Penczek_2003_Verifying_Epistemic_Properties_of_Multi_.pdf}, } @book{pias03_cyber_, title = {Cybernetics}, subtitle = {The Macy Conferences 1946-1953}, editor = {Pias, Claus}, year = {2003}, tags = {communication, cybernetics, memory, perception, psychology, redundancy, speech}, publisher = {Diaphanes}, pdf_locked = {False}, isbn = {978-3-03734-598-6}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Pias/Pias_2003_Cybernetics.pdf}, } @article{pinelle03_task_analy_group_usabil_evaluat_10_, title = {Task Analysis for Groupware Usability Evaluation}, subtitle = {Modeling Shared-Workspace Tasks With the Mechanics of Collaboration}, author = {Pinelle, David and Gutwin, Carl and Greenberg, Saul}, year = {2003}, tags = {collaboration, CSCW, groupware, HCI, mechanics_of_collaboration, prototype, task_analysis, usability}, journal = {ACM Transactions on Computer-Human Interaction, TOCHI}, volume = {10}, number = {4}, abstract = {Researchers inComputerSupported CooperativeWorkhave recently developed discount evaluation methods for shared-workspace groupware. Most discount methods rely on some understanding of the context in which the groupware systems will be used, which means that evaluators need to model the tasks that groups will perform. However, existing task analysis schemes are not well suited to the needs of groupware evaluation: they either do not deal with collaboration issues, do not use an appropriate level of analysis for concrete assessment of usability in interfaces, or do not adequately represent the variability inherent in group work. To fill this gap, we have developed a new modeling technique called Collaboration Usability Analysis. CUA focuses on the teamwork that goes on in a group task rather than the taskwork. To enable closer links between the task representation and the groupware interface, CUA grounds each collaborative action in a set of group work primitives called the mechanics of collaboration. To represent the range of ways that a group task can be carried out, CUA allows variable paths through the execution of a task, and allows alternate paths and optional tasks to be modeled. CUA's main contribution is to provide evaluators with a framework in which they can simulate the realistic use of a groupware system and identify usability problems that are caused by the groupware interface. SNIF-ACT selects actions based on the measure of information scent, which is calculated by a spreading activation mechanism that captures the mutual relevance of the contents of a WWW page to the goal of the user. There are two main predictions of SNIF-ACT: (1) users working on unfamiliar tasks are expected to choose links that have high information scent, (2) users will leave a site when the information scent of the site diminishes below a certain threshold. We identify general trends comparing novice and expert programmers, programming knowledge and strategies, program generation and comprehension, and objectoriented versus procedural programming. (We do not cover research relating specifically to other programming styles.) The main focus of the review is on novice programming and topics relating to novice teaching and learning. Various problems experienced by novices are identified, including issues relating to basic program design, to algorithmic complexity in certain language features, to the “fragility' ' of novice knowledge, and so on. We summarise this material and suggest some practical implications for teachers. We suggest that a key issue that emerges is the distinction between effective and ineffective novices. What characterises effective novices? Is it possible to identify the specific deficits of ineffective novices and help them to become effective learners of programming? 1.}, invalid_isbn = {0899-3408}, issn = {0899-3408}, pages = {137–172}, pdf_locked = {False}, pmid = {91943473}, doi = {10.1076/csed.13.2.137.14200}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Robins/Robins_2003_Learning_and_Teaching_Prgramming_a_Rev.pdf}, } @book{robinson03_years_rice_salt_, title = {The Years of Rice and Salt}, subtitle = {A Novel}, author = {Robinson, Kim Stanley}, year = {2003}, tags = {alternate_history, fiction, plague}, publisher = {Spectra}, isbn = {978-0-553-10920-7}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Robinson/Robinson_2003_The_Years_of_Rice_and_Salt.epub}, } @thesis{rooij03__tract_cognit_, title = {Tractable Cognition}, subtitle = {Complexity Theory In Cognitive Psychology}, author = {van Rooij, Iris}, year = {2003}, tags = {cognitive_psychology, complexity, tractable_cognition}, pdf_locked = {False}, type = {phd}, url = {http://hdl.handle.net/1828/8006}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Rooij/vanRooij_Iris_PhD_2003.pdf}, } @article{sandfort03__explor_struc_of_techn_within_34_, title = {Exploring The Structuration Of Technology Within Human Service Organizations}, author = {Sandfort, Jodi R.}, year = {2003}, tags = {human_services, open_systems, organisation, structuration, technology}, journal = {Administration & Society}, volume = {34}, number = {6}, DATE_ADDED = {Sun Oct 1 20:31:02 2023}, pages = {605-631}, pdf_locked = {False}, doi = {10.1177/0095399702239167}, url = {http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/0095399702239167}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Sandfort/exploring structuration of technology.pdf}, } @inproceedings{schaerli03__trait_, title = {Traits}, subtitle = {Composable Units of Behaviour}, author = {Schärli, Nathanael and Ducasse, Stéphane and Nierstrasz, Oscar and Black, Andrew P.}, year = {2003}, tags = {inheritance, mix_ins, programming_language_design, reuse, rust, smalltalk, software_development, traits}, booktitle = {ECOOP 2003 - Object-Oriented Programming}, pages = {248-274}, pdf_locked = {False}, doi = {10.1007/978-3-540-45070-2_12}, url = {http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-540-45070-2_12}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Schrli/Schrli_2003_Traits.pdf}, } @book{schafter24__order_of_ornam_struc_of_style_, title = {The Order Of Ornament, The Structure Of Style}, subtitle = {Theoretical Foundations Of Modern Art and Architecture}, author = {Schafter, Debra}, year = {2003}, tags = {alois_riegl, architecture, gottfried_semper, john_ruskin, modern_art, ornamentation, owen_jones, style, urban_design}, publisher = {Cambridge University Press}, pdf_locked = {False}, isbn = {0-521-79114-6}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Schafter/the order of ornament the structure of style.pdf}, } @book{schechner03_perfor_theor_, title = {Performance Theory}, author = {Schechner, Richard}, year = {2003}, tags = {cambridge_anthropologists, diagram, drama, event_time, performance, poetics, ritual, script, set_time, shamanism, symbolic_time, theatre, time}, publisher = {Routledge}, orig_published = {1988}, pdf_locked = {False}, isbn = {0-203-42663-0}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Schechner/Schechner_2003_Performance_Theory.pdf}, } @inproceedings{schmidt03_combin_dynam_logic_with_doxas_modal_logic_, title = {Combining Dynamic Logic With Doxastic Modal Logics}, author = {Schmidt, Renate A. and Tishkovsky, Dmitry}, year = {2003}, tags = {doxastic_logic, modal_logic, propositional_dynamic_logic, temporal_logic}, booktitle = {Advances in Modal Logic}, pdf_locked = {False}, isbn = {0-9543006-2-9}, url = {http://www.aiml.net/volumes/volume4/}, file = {2000/2000/2003/Schmidt/Schmidt_2003_Combining_Dynamic_Logic_With_Doxastic_Mo.pdf}, } @book{schudson03_sociol_news_contem_societ_, title = {The Sociology of News, Contemporary Societies}, author = {Schudson, Michael}, year = {2003}, tags = {artifacts, history, journalism, news, newspaper, society, sociology}, publisher = {W. Each of the essays is written by one of the world's leading experts in that field. The papers provide a comprehensive introduction to the subject in question, and are written in a way that is accessible to philosophy undergraduates and to those outside of philosophy who are interested in these subjects. Each chapter contains an extensive bibliography of the major writings in the field. Among the topics covered are the philosophy of logic, of mathematics and of Gottlob Frege; Ludwig Wittgenstein's Tractatus; a survey of logical positivism; the philosophy of physics and of science; probability theory, cybernetics and an essay on the mechanist/vitalist debates. In addition to these papers, the volume contains a helpful chronology to the major scientific and philosophical events in the twentieth century. To aid this design process, a method is developed to encapsulate the constraints of sheet metal that make designing such components a tedious and iterative procedure. This project involves the implementation and testing of a geometric representation scheme for building feasible sheet metal components through the use of 17 grammar rules that capture manufacturing operations like cutting and bending. The implemented system has benefits both as a user interaction tool and as the basis for a computational design synthesis approach for designing sheet metal components.
