Its central theme is that organizational knowledge is created through a continuous dialogue between tacit and explicit knowledge. The nature of this dialogue is examined and four patterns of interaction involving tacit and explicit knowledge are identified. It is argued that while new knowledge is developed by individuals, organizations play a critical role in articulating and amplifying that knowledge. A theoretical framework is developed which provides an analytical per- spective on the constituent dimensions of knowledge cre- ation. This framework is then applied in two operational models for facilitating the dynamic creation of appropriate organizational knowledge.}, invalid_isbn = {02621333849}, issn = {1047-7039}, pages = {14-37}, pdf_locked = {False}, pmid = {7098440}, doi = {10.1287/orsc.5.1.14}, url = {http://pubsonline.informs.org/doi/abs/10.1287/orsc.5.1.14}, file = {1900/1990/1994/Lewin/Lewin_1994_A_Dynamic_Theory_of_Organizational_Knowl.pdf}, } @article{maes94_agent_that_reduc_work_infor_overl_37_, title = {Agents That Reduce Work and Information Overload}, author = {Maes, Pattie}, year = {1994}, tags = {agents, labour, MAS, work}, journal = {Communications of the ACM}, volume = {37}, number = {7}, pages = {30-40}, pdf_locked = {False}, doi = {10.1145/176789.176792}, url = {http://dx.doi.org/10.1145/176789.176792}, file = {1900/1990/1994/Maes/Maes_1994_Agents_That_Reduce_Work_and_Information_.pdf}, } @article{malone94_inter_study_coord_26_, title = {The Interdisciplinary Study of Coordination}, author = {Malone, Thomas W. and Crowston, Kevin}, year = {1994}, tags = {coordination, economics, framework, operations, organisation}, journal = {ACM Computing Surveys, CSUR}, volume = {26}, number = {1}, issn = {03600300}, month = {mar}, pages = {87-119}, pdf_locked = {False}, doi = {10.1145/174666.174668}, url = {http://portal.acm.org/citation.cfm?doid=174666.174668}, file = {1900/1990/1994/Malone/Malone_1994_The_Interdisciplinary_Study_of_Coordinat.pdf}, } @inproceedings{mccarthy94_emerg_unmar_optim_prosod_morph_, title = {The Emergence of the Unmarked Optimality in Prosodic Morphology}, author = {McCarthy, John and Prince, Alan S}, year = {1994}, tags = {language, NLP, prosody}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the NELS 24}, pages = {333-379}, pdf_locked = {True}, doi = {10.7282/T3Z03663}, url = {http://works.bepress.com/john_j_mccarthy/43/}, file = {1900/1990/1994/McCarthy/McCarthy_1994_The_Emergence_of_the_Unmarked_Optimality.pdf}, } @book{michie94_machin_learn_neural_statis_class_, title = {Machine Learning, Neural, and Statistical Classification.}, author = {Michie, D. and Spiegelhalter, D.J. and Taylor, C.C}, year = {1994}, tags = {machine_learning, statistics, text_book}, publisher = {Citeseer}, abstract = {Statistical, machine learning and neural network approaches to classification are all covered in this volume. This model integrates several traditional approaches to modeling cultural evolution into a common conceptual framework. This framework depicts cultural evolution as a process of dual inheritance. At the micro-evolutionary level there is a population of individuals, each described in terms of a set of behavioral traits. Traits are passed from generation to generation at this level by means of a number of socially motivated operators. At the macro-evolutionary level, individuals are able to generate mappa that generalize on their experience. These individual mappa can be merged to form group mappa and these group mappa can be generalized and specialized using a variety of generic and problem specific operators. A specific implementation of Cultural Algorithms is described using Genetic Algorithms to represent the population space and Version spaces (or lattices) to represent the set of possible schemata that can be produced via generalizations on the population space. Individual and group mappa are defined as subspaces within the lattice. It is shown how the addition of a belief space to the traditional Genetic Algorithm framework can affect the rate at which learning can take place in terms of the modifications that it produces in the traditional schema theorem for Genetic Algorithms.}, issn = {00930415}, pages = {131-139}, pdf_locked = {False}, pmid = {10832428}, isbn = {981-02-1810-9}, doi = {10.1142/9789814534116}, file = {1900/1990/1994/Reynolds/Reynolds_1994_An_Introduction_To_Cultural_Algorithms.pdf}, } @proceedings{riley94_third_confer_clips_, title = {Third Conference on CLIPS}, editor = {Riley, Gary}, year = {1994}, tags = {ai, c_plus_plus, CLIPS, expert_system, MIRO, production_system, RETE, robotics, rule, rule_engine}, pdf_locked = {False}, url = {https://ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/19950013209}, file = {1900/1990/1994/Riley/Riley_1994_Third_Conference_on_CLIPS_08627.pdf}, file2 = {1900/1990/1994/Riley/Riley_1994_Third_Conference_on_CLIPS.pdf}, } @book{rilstone94_inter_, title = {Interaction}, subtitle = {The Journal of Role Playing and Storytelling Systems}, editor = {Rilstone, Andrew}, year = {1994}, tags = {interactive_fiction, journal, role_play, RPG, story_telling}, publisher = {Crashing Boar Books}, issn = {1353-4548}, pdf_locked = {False}, file = {1900/1990/1994/Rilstone/Rilstone_1994_Interaction.pdf}, } @report{rosenschein94_actin_to_gain_infor_, title = {Acting To Gain Information}, subtitle = {Real-Time Reasoning Meets Real-Time Perception}, author = {Rosenschein, Stan}, year = {1994}, tags = {agents, dissertation, information, learning, NASA, reasoning}, institution = {NASA Ames Research Center}, pdf_locked = {False}, url = {https://ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/19940006060}, file = {1900/1990/1994/Rosenschein/Rosenschein_1994_Acting_To_Gain_Information.pdf}, } @book{rousseau94_social_contr_, title = {The Social Contract}, author = {Rousseau, Jean-Jacques and Betts, Christopher}, year = {1994}, tags = {philosophy, social_contract}, publisher = {Oxford University Press}, pdf_locked = {False}, isbn = {0-19-283597-1}, file = {1900/1990/1994/Rousseau/Rousseau_1994_The_Social_Contract.pdf}, } @book{sandewall94__featur_fluen_1_, title = {Features and Fluents}, subtitle = {The Representation of Knowledge About Dynamical Systems}, author = {Sandewall, Erik}, year = {1994}, tags = {ai, dynamical_systems_modelling, feature_logic, fluents, inhabited_dynamical_systems, K-IA, knowledge_representation, logic, ontology, scenario_description, semantics, temporal_feature_logic}, volume = {1}, publisher = {Clarendon Press}, pdf_locked = {False}, isbn = {0-19-853845-6}, file = {1900/1990/1994/Sandewall/Sandewall_1994_Features_and_Fluents.pdf}, } @book{sapkowski93__blood_of_elves_, title = {Blood Of Elves}, author = {Sapkowski, Andrzej}, year = {1994}, tags = {fantasy, the_witcher}, publisher = {Gollancz}, isbn = {978-0-575-08484-1}, file = {1900/1990/1994/Sapkowski/Blood of Elves.epub}, } @book{sardar94_introd_islam_, title = {Introducing Islam}, subtitle = {A Graphic Guide}, author = {Sardar, Ziauddin}, year = {1994}, tags = {graphic_guide, history, islam, muslim, religion}, publisher = {Icon Books}, isbn = {978-1-84831-084-1}, file = {1900/1990/1994/Sardar/Sardar_1994_Introducing_Islam.epub}, } @book{schafer94_sound_, title = {The Soundscape}, subtitle = {Our Sonic Environment and the Tuning of the World}, author = {Schafer, R. All the dynamics are specified by the authorities governing these bounds. A system to implement Norma has been constructed, called a 'Normbase' handles time intrinsically to achieve a huge reduction in the complexity of a specification. Philosophical disputes arose about the nature of scientific method and about whether, or to what extent, the understanding of human conduct and human society required the adoption of the methods of observation and experiment common to the natural sciences. Different philosophical theories about the nature of reality, the foundations of knowledge and of morality, and the limits of individual freedom were systematically developed, and many such theories are still very much alive in contemporary philosophical debates. The philosophers discussed in this volume include those belonging both to the 'analytic' and the 'continental' traditions, as well as the now influential American pragmatists. Each chapter is written by a different author who presents the issues in the context of the period in which they arose, while also keeping an eye on their relevance to current philosophical interests. A few philosophers are discussed in more than one chapter, in different but mutually illuminating contexts. Each chapter in The Nineteenth Century is self-contained and makes a distinctive contribution to a set of philosophical problems.
